Why is this anyone's business?

January 24th 9:30am

Let me be honest. I've never fully understood why many of the details surrounding a woman's labor and delivery process become public news. However, after two of my own children and numerous births of nieces, nephews, and friends, I've realized that for some reason, the state of the cervix is a critical piece of information to publish.

Therefore, at 9:30 the initial cervical exam shows 3cm dilation, 50% effacement. Ultrasound shows that thankfully BB#3 isn't breach anymore. The head is down and ready for business.

Stay tuned. . . Pitocin starts now.

Let the Party Begin

Welcome to Room 2, 4th Floor, Pavilion Building, University of New Mexico Hospital.

This will be the first address for BB#3 (still doesn't have a name, keep the votes and suggestions coming), albeit for a short period of time.

We're getting checked in, we've met our nurse Tamara (pronounces differently than our Tamara--Tuh-maw-ra), and we're getting asked a bunch of questions about organ donation and medical power of attorney--great way to calm the nerves.

Speaking of nerves, I think we're every bit as excited about this as previous Dastrup Family births, but the nice thing is that the anxiety level is significantly lower. Experience is nice.

What to name Baby Boy Number 3

I feel like in many ways, Christa and I are decent parents. We usually feed our kids, we teach them important things like how to use the TV remote, and we draw the line at one dessert per meal. However, one area where our parenting skills have not come easily is with naming our children. While we do ultimately figure things out, this is a painful process for us.

We are not hiding anything, we are only a few hours away from the big arrival and we don't have a clue what we we are going to call the kid.

Please help! Vote in our poll to the right, give us ideas for other names in the comments section, send financial contributions--any help will be accepted to help us solve this crisis.

Before Picture

We had to have Christa really pooch her belly out as far as she could to make her look like she was ready to have a baby tomorrow, but to prove that she actually was pregnant and didn't steal Baby Boy #3 from the nursery, we provide the following evidence.

Announcing the Creation of Baby Boy Number 3

"Wait a minute," you might say, "Isn't it a bit late (and a bit personal) to announce the creation of a baby boy that is about to be born."

Absolutely. This proclamation, however, announces the creation of the BLOG regarding the birth of the third son of Christa and Brigham Dastrup.

After previous experiences trying to share news regarding the birth of our boys as we tried to keep out tired eyes both open and watching what was going on with our new arrival (I know, I know, "eat, sleep, poop, repeat" but when he's yours it's all still awesome), I decided to try this 21st century approach to sharing info with those we want so much to participate in our big day.

So, welcome to Baby Boy Number 3. We welcome as many comments as you all have time to share. Keep coming back for pictures, the ever-important (though I've never really figured out why) height and weight statistics, new poll questions, and who knows what else.

Thanks for all of your love and support!
